Machon Melechet Shamayim is a large school for Sofrut in Israel run by the master sofer Eliezer Adam. In order to ensure sofrim (scribes) adhere to the laws, Eliezer has produced some audio and visual aids which he has asked me to display on this website.

The materials are quite detailed and are all in Hebrew. There is a double CD-Rom which shows through video the formation of all the letters and taggin according to the Ashkenazi tradition, how to cut a kulmus (quill). There is also a set of 10 x 60 min audio cassetes  which detail all the pertinent halachot for the scribe drawing from Keset Hasofer and the Mishnah Berurah, the two main study texts of Machon Melechet Shamayim.

For any scribes, would be scribes or very interested parties, the CD and tapes are available for purchase through Eliezer’s website www.soferstam.org.

Eliezer’s two ‘course books’ are Yalkut S”TAM and Chok l’Sofer.  The first contains instructions on formation of the letters, based on Mishnat Hasofer plus Keset Hasofer (1-12).  The second is similar but looks at Keset Hasofer (1-12), differing views - Shoneh Halachot from the Mishna Berurah, Chazon Ish and Biur Halacha - and is broken into a daily study arrangement.
